How to publish?

A user doesnt need to know any type of sintaxis. Just click on "edit" in the page you want to change and write. If you want to use any kind of format there are some buttons located on the top of the text area.

Purpose of a wiki

Allow different users to create web pages about a certain topic, in this way each user provides a little of his knowledge in order to complement a complete web page, creating this way a community of users that share contents about a same topic or category.

Examples for the uses of a wiki site

-A website about likes and hobbies, like movies, animals, computer games, etc.
-Shared documentation about a product, service, proccess, etc.
-Organize a database about the knowledge of any company.
-An event calendar .
-Announce and share important news.

Drawbacks of the wikis

Because users can modify the wiki, the information carries some risks. Even if wikis are monitored, they can contain inappropiate language, spam or incorrect contents

Why are wikis significant

Wikis offer a powerful communication tool for developing content-specific websites. Because wikis evolve adding material to the site they can adress many needs, as student involvement, etc. Since wikis are on the internet, students can access and participate from any location if they have internet access.

Video about wikis

Function of a wiki

A wiki allows creating, browsing and searching through information.

Development of the wikis

In the 2000 wiki's popularity was increasing, it was commonly used by companies as a collaborative system, it was helpful in documentation, intranets, and project communications. Today many companies, schools and universities use wikis.

Starts of the wikis

In 1994 Ward Cunningham created the first wiki, it was called WikiWikiWeb, he decided that name because he remembered one time he was on an airport and an employee told him to take the wiki wiki shuttle bus to arrive faster at any other terminal, so he took the word wikiwiki as a replacement of the word "quick", so WikiWikiWeb meant quick-web.
